Song of the Day: Oliver Sim – Hideous

Hideous Bastard, the debut album by Oliver Sim, better known as the author, singer and bassist of The xx, is coming September 9 on Young. Produced by colleague Jamie xx, Hideous Bastard encompasses two years of studio sessions, inspired by Oliver’s life experiences and his passion for horror films, and explores themes such as shame, fear and masculinity.

Issues that are already addressed in the new single “Hideous”. With the help of myth and guardian angel Jimmy Somerville, the new single represents the forthcoming work from which it is based and sees Oliver publicly expose his condition for the first time, having been infected with HIV since he was 17. The video accompanying the song was directed by another Oliver legend, French director Yann Gonzalez, with whom he previously collaborated on the queer horror short film Hideous presented at the Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival. Enjoy the song!
