The Vaccines are back on track with the new album ‘Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations,’ available Jan. 12, 2024 through Thirty Tigers.
“There are two kinds of people in the world: people whose hearts have been broken and people whose hearts have not yet been broken,” says singer Justin Young.” ‘Heartbreak Kid’ is a call to arms, a reminder for a time in history when facing your feelings head on can make you feel more alive, even if it feels like the world is ending. This is a song to keep those in line on the busy highway that connects loss to discovery company.
With 10 new songs full of choruses, melodies and pop intelligence, ‘Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations’ is a record that brims with fun and explores the ways in which life is wont to let us down. “It’s about loss,” Young says, “and coming to terms with that loss by trying to understand it.
The album’s title comes from the immortal lyrics of Don McLean’s ‘American Pie,’ a song that for Young evokes the death of innocence and the American dream. After moving to Los Angeles, Young was forced to confront the disillusionment that comes when expectations, dreams and reality do not quite meet. Although ‘Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations’ is an album about reconciliation with that loss, it is also full of gratitude for the people and places we once loved. Enjoy ‘Heartbreak Kid’!
