This Is Pop?’s advice on artists to watch out for next year. Some are absolute up-and-comers, others are already on the right track, but they all have potential that could blossom in the coming months. This is part two, enjoy!
Dumb Buoys Fishing Club
Dumb Buoys Fishing Club, a project by musicians DanDlion and Havelock, released their debut album ‘Wrecked’ on September 2023. They performed their second live show at Glastonbury, showcasing their magical and otherworldly atmosphere.
Lime Garden
Brighton four-piece Lime Garden announce their long-awaited debut album, One More Thing. In this punchy record, we’re granted exclusive access to the sonic diary of four best friends as they come of age. “I feel like you can hear us growing up in the songs,” says vocalist and rhythm guitarist Chloe Howard. The indie-electro band (completed by Leila Deeley (lead guitar), Tippi Morgan (bass) and Annabel Whittle (drums)) have been making music together since they were 16, releasing since 2020.
Spiritual Cramp
Citing sources from early Dub influenced Clash, Blitz and The Modern Lovers – Spiritual Cramp exist in a strange vacuum somewhere between David Byrne’s oversized suit and a bar fight between a bunch of drunk goons on Polk Street in SF. Hate for the police, the government, the status quo and himself are reoccurring themes in Bingham’s lyrics. The sounds borrow from the past, echoes of late 70’s / early 80’s working class rock and punk, which function on the upbeat, showcasing very bright guitars yet generating darker vocal rhythms and darker patterning.
Somadina
Nigerian-based artist Somadina has been gaining popularity in the music industry since her 2018 single “Ihy”. Her 2019 single “Lay Low” featuring Orinayo showcased heartfelt R&B ballads. In 2020, Somadina released a five-track EP, Five Stages, which shares her painful journey through her young adulthood. The EP takes listeners through the same lows and highs, emphasizing that pain is not forever and that acceptance is the most blissful part of grief. Somadina continued to grow and showcased her wild side with her single “Kno Me” featuring SGaWD. The EP showcases Somadina’s talent and continues to inspire and grow in the music industry.
