Big Love – Is It Over Yet

Fast-rising Dublin six-piece Big Love shared their new single “Is It Over Yet”. The band – made up of Cian Ó’Maonlaí (lead vocals), Jack Cody (guitar/vocals), Megan Nic Ruairí (vocals, keys/synth), Dan Aherne (bass), Anton Shovlin (drums), and Adam Curtis (lead guitar) – have been gathering significant momentum.

Recorded in London with the help of producer Matt Glasbey (Alt-J, Sorry, Bloc Party), “Is It Over Yet” perfectly exemplifies why the band have been on such an incendiary rise. Glitchy synths and drums build gently from brooding moments of rumination before soaring to cathartic and euphoric highs made up of hook-led layered harmonies and subtly discordant guitar work. The track is as pensive as it is anthemic, examining the daily turmoil we each face within our inner psyches when in solitude.

Speaking on the track, Ó’Maonlaí says: “This song for me is an attempt at tracking and describing a wandering mind. From helpless, hopeless dread to boundless joy we can dance between the two at any given moment. The song places a protagonist sitting deep in the dark of a pub alone. He waits for friends and happiness to arrive. He waits with an excited stomach, a feeling disguised as sick and anxious, for happiness and life to return.” This Is Pop? today’s song of the day is here for you.
