Fontaines Dc – Favourite

Fontaines D.C. have released ‘Favourite’, the second single from their long-awaited fourth album ‘Romance’. due for release on 23 August on XL Recordings.

‘Favourite’, the stunning finale to the new album, is a bright and sincere love song. Grian Chatten describes it as having ‘an infinite sound, a continuous cycle from euphoria to sadness, two worlds spinning forever’.

The video for ‘Favourite’, self-directed by the band itself, documents a recent trip to Madrid, a city with which Fontaines D.C. has several personal ties: it is the place where guitarist Carlos O’Connell was born and raised and the city the band used as a base for its first tour. Cut from childhood footage of the five band members, it is an intimate portrait of a band on the verge of taking flight.

Speaking about the video Conor Deegan says: “This video is a reminiscence of the past, of the childhood of others we didn’t know. Seeing childhood images of adults we know intimately allows us to somehow explore where we came from and who we still are. I recognise their faces, and the antics the kids pull in their videos are so disarming. I am reminded of childish ways that have changed over time and others that have not. I feel their souls. I would like this video to honour our friendships and, from these, the relationships we hold dear. Our mothers, our fathers, our brothers, our aunts and uncles, our grandmothers and grandfathers. Those who are still there and those we have unfortunately lost. We have not lost that bond with each other and we are not afraid to grow up, preserving romance in a sometimes difficult world’. This Is Pop? today’s song of the day is here for you.
