Clairo – Nomad

Evoking balmy summer evenings and tête-à-têtes in luxurious lounges, Charm is a collection of warm ’70s-inspired tunes that move casually between jazz, psychedelic folk and soul, an extrovert take on the much-loved 2021 album Sling. Charm was recorded live between Queens-based Diamond Mine Recording studio and Allaire Studios, nestled in the mountains of Woodstock, NY. Producer Michels, a renowned soul revivalist who boasts collaborations with funk legend Sharon Jones and the Black Keys, was enlisted to helm the all-analogue recording process.

Clairo, fascinated by the grandeur and sophistication of Henry Nilsson and Blossom Dearie’s classic records, adopted their 20th century recording techniques in the hope of countering the idea of their obsolescence in the digital age. In Charm, the artist reintroduces the live instrumental sounds with which he debuted on his 2021 album Sling, but with an even more powerful ensemble of horns, horns and vintage synthesisers, infusing the songs with a rhythmic foundation reminiscent of his debut record Immunity. The results are astonishing. Enjoy ‘Nomad’: This Is Pop? today’s song of the day is here for you.
