Bodega – Adaption Of The Truth About Marie

NYC’s cultural commentators Bodega have announced Brand On The Run, a digital deluxe edition of their acclaimed 2024 album, Our Brand Could Be Yr Life, due out November 1st via Chrysalis Records.

The expanded edition features seven tracks, four previously unreleased, including “Cry When Yr Young,” a cover of the defunct New York band Milk Dick that Ben Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio used to played regularly in their early days as Bodega Bay, and three limited edition B-sides, including today’s first B-side single “Adaptation of the Truth about Marie.”

“‘Adaptation of the Truth About Marie’ is an adaptation of the 2011 novel ‘The Truth About Marie’ by the Belgium novelist Jean-Philippe Toussaint,” notes Hozie. “As filmmakers get to adapt novels into movies, I thought it would be fun to adapt a book into a song. I took some liberties with the plot but the psychological thrust and dramatic situation are the same (a love triangle involving death). This song is paired with our A-side single ‘Tarkovski’ because that song was also written as a response to reading a book (Tarkovsky’s ‘Sculpting in Time’). The music video is a homage to one of my favourite pastimes: reading a good book in a warm tub.” This Is Pop? today’s song of the day is here for you.
