Goat – Ouroboros

New album for GOAT, the third in three years. The eponymous ‘Goat’ will be released on 11 October by Rocket Recordings, anticipated by the single ‘Ouroboros’.

The renowned Swedish psych-rock outfit has recorded and released a lot of new music over the past three years, returning to the splendour of their 2012 debut ‘World Music’.The uroboros (the object to which the first single ‘Ourboros’ is dedicated) – the iconographic circular image of a snake or dragon biting its own tail – for some is an affirmation of the brutality of nature and for others symbolises the contrast between divine and human, but more commonly indicates the endless cycles of death and rebirth that characterise life.

‘Goat’ is yet another positive proof of the Swedish ensemble, unpredictable and evocative, driven as always by the unmistakable style to which the band has accustomed us over the years. ‘One More Death’ and ‘Goatbrain’ are spectacular openers driven by an incisive funk and a ruthless guitar drenched in fuzz and wah effects. ‘Dollar Bill’ evokes the dirty, swaggering groove of Goat’s early days, while ‘Fools Journey’ is shamanic free jazz influenced by side project Djinn. ‘Frisco Beaver’ and ‘Disco Fever’ recall the 2012 debut, while with ‘Zombie’ and the epic finale of ‘Ouroboros’ the Goats give us a new sound in which they fuse an all hip-hop flavour in the construction of old school breakbeats.

‘Goat’ is perhaps the most representative album of their career, an album capable in just eight tracks of showing the past, present and future of one of the most representative bands of the psychedelic and independent movement of the last 10 years.
