Kim Deal – Crystal Breath

Kim Deal announced her debut solo album, Nobody Loves You More, due out on 22 November on 4AD. The artist sharef ‘Crystal Breath’, a delicious dose of distortion filled with pulsating rhythms and fuzzed-out riffs. The track is accompanied by a video made by art director Alex Da Corte.

Nobody Loves You More is Kim Deal’s debut album, although it’s not the first time she’s tried her hand at solo releases: in 2013 she self-released a five-part, ten-song seven-inch vinyl series. In keeping with Deal’s meticulous approach to her art, the album has been refined over several years. The oldest songs (‘Are You Mine?’ and ‘Wish I Was’) were written and recorded in 2011, shortly after Deal had exited the Pixies’ “Lost Cities Tour” and moved to Los Angeles (early versions of these songs were included in the aforementioned vinyl series); the last recording of Nobody Loves You More took place in November 2022 with the legendary Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. Along the way, he involved a variety of collaborators, from Breeders past and present (Mando Lopez, twin sister Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson, Britt Walford), to Raymond McGinley (Teenage Fanclub), Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs) and Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan of the Savages. Nobody Loves You More was mixed by Marta Salogni and mastered by Heba Kadry. This Is Pop? today’s song of the day is here for you.
