‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women)’ is the first work in four years by Japanese Breakfast, the follow-up to ‘Jubilee’, which was nominated at the 2021 Grammys in the Best Alternative Album and Best New Artist categories.
The new album was produced by Blake Mills, Japanese Breakfast, led by the influential Michelle Zauner, will release ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women)’ on 21 March via Dead Oceans. They shared the first single ‘Orlando in Love.’
Zauner is of Korean descent and one of the most influential American personalities associated with the independent music scene, also known for her passion for civil rights issues in the Asian American community. In 2025, the film inspired by her bestseller ‘Crying in H Mart’ will be released, a true publishing case of 2021, among the bestsellers and best-loved of the year and on the year-end lists of the New Yorker and the New York Times.
