Destroyer – Bologna (feat. Fever)

‘Bologna’ is a restructuring of the Destroyer environment, the first song Dan Bejar has written with himself as a secondary character in mind. In the new single, Bejar is a behind-the-scenes commentator on the main action of the song, trapped in the green room of the new album cover, while Simone Schmidt of Fiver has the role of the lead vocalist. The Fiver singer’s voice is harsh and expressive, penetrating the darkness of the scene and shedding unique light on Destroyer’s ‘Bologna’.

‘I haven’t written many songs like Bologna,’ says Dan Bejar. I struggled to sing the first and third verse, the most important parts of the song. They needed gravity and grit. The threat of disappearing had to be real. So I called Simone.’

‘Dan’s Boogie’ is a groundbreaking album for Destroyer, with songs spanning the broad spectrum that Dan and his collaborators have created to tell the stories on the new record: spectacle-laden pop epics, personal piano ballads and smouldering works of atmosphere that blur the boundaries between song, novel and film, each brimming with the urgency of a state secret in the mind of a tortured spy.
