To mark the 30th anniversary of the critically acclaimed Smokers Delight, Nightmares on Wax returns with a new EP, Still Smokin. III, out 18 June via Warp Records. The four-track release brings together a new generation of artists to reimagine standout moments from the landmark 1995 album.
Leading the project is the digital-exclusive single “30 Groove St.” featuring Jordan Stephens. Artist, writer, and one half of Rizzle Kicks, who offers a fresh vocal take on the original Smokers Delight cut “Groove St.” Jordan, who previously appeared in the Smokers Delight short film released for the album’s 25th anniversary, recorded his vocals freestyle on his phone before sending them to N.O.W, who built the track around the raw performance. “The result,” he says, “is something for the true herbalists.”
Also featured is rising artist Eléwa, discovered by N.O.W on YouTube, who delivers a stirring reinterpretation of “Wait a Minute.” “Her rendition gave the track a fresh new flavour,” George explains. “She’s an incredible artist, and I’m proud to shine a light on her as part of this celebration.”
