Lucy Gooch – Clouds

Lucy Gooch grew up in English Norfolk and then moved to Bristol, a city of electronic, folk and acoustic sounds with a strong musical tradition that has given birth to some of the most innovative British artists of the last 30 years. ‘Cloud’ is one of the previews of her album “Desert Window”.

Lucy Gooch has been working on layering her vocals ever since her debut EP “Rushing” and subsequent “Rain’s Break”; this collection of genre-crossing songs has established her as one of the names to watch, not least through her performances at Glastonbury, SXSW and Rewire in 2021. Following this whirlwind of activity, the artist experienced changes and upheavals while working on what would become her debut; she moved from Bristol to Norwich before finally settling in York.

Many of the tracks on “Desert Window” began as vocal improvisations from which she drew a narrative. Taking her cue from the incantatory singing found in Middle English poems such as “The Names of the Hare”, as well as the prescient imagery of contemporary works such as Leonora Carrington’s “The Hearing Trumpet” (1974). ‘To a greater extent, this became an experiment in placing my voice in a more narrative way, while remaining oblique,’ Gooch explains.”
