White Lies – Nothing on Me

White Lies have announced a series of gigs in Europe and the UK and to mark the occasion have released a new track, “Nothing on Me”, the first unreleased track in three years, following the release of the album As I Try Not To Fall Apart in 2022.

Speaking about “Nothing On Me”, recorded at The Church Studios in North London, produced by Riley MacIntyre (Ezra Collective, Arlo Parks) and mixed by Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blondshell, Beach House), the band said:

“This track introduces you to the collaborative and current mind of White Lies. It is partly unruly, unbalanced, full of conflicting ideas. It deliberately ignores outside influences, pressures or expectations. It is like driving without brakes or belts. Lyrically and conceptually, it represents a rebirth and an introduction. The initial musical idea comes from a synth sequence with a different tempo than the rest of the band. A gimmick I borrowed from 70s prog, which I love and listened to a lot during the making of the record: Genesis, Chris Squire, Yes, Utopia and Gong are all artists who make extensive use of it. The rhythm is a classic motorik beat, borrowed from the krautrock we love and have often used in our career. The guitar melody is almost joyful and absurd, similar to a nursery rhyme or that of an ice-cream van: a stark contrast to the general atmosphere of the piece. The inspiration comes from Steve Hillage and his album Motivation Radio, in which he often resorts to similar melodies. All this creates a cacophony, an information overload that disorients and confuses.”
