Matt Berninger has released his second solo album, Get Sunk, which features the hypnotic and sparkling No Love.
Matt Berninger is the vocalist and lyricist for Grammy Award-winning band The National. His songwriting has long garnered praise for its poignant clarity, jagged-edged wit and intimately emotive melodies. His second solo album, Get Sunk, is not overtly autobiographical, but the narrator is processing how he became himself. Who is he compared to the kid on that sepia-toned farm? What is his idea of happiness? What are we all searching for? Get Sunk is an ode to the infinite. The others that make us who we are; the possibilities our paths can take and the abyss of both misery and bliss.
Berninger worked on the project with Grammy Award-winning producer and sound engineer Sean O’Brien, who also co-wrote many of the songs. With its rich soundscape and intense, emotional lyrics, Get Sunk is a testament to Berninger’s artistry and his ability to capture the complexities of the human experience. His musical world also developed with the help of numerous musicians and friends including Meg Duffy (Hand Habits), Julia Laws (Ronboy), Kyle Resnick (The National, Beirut), Garret Lang, Sterling Laws, Booker T Jones, Harrison Whitford, Mike Brewer and Walter Martin and Paul Maroon of The Walkmen.
