Bar Italia – Fundraiser

The trio Bar Italia returns with a new album to be released in October, preceded by the single ‘Fundraiser’.

Some Like It Hot is a 1959 film starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon that recounts the adventures of a group of rebellious musicians. It is entertaining, sexy, turbulent, and timeless, with a talented cast giving their best performances. Some Like It Hot is also the new album by London trio Bar Italia, out October 17 on Matador, and some similarities are perhaps not coincidental. The record pulsates with romance, self-discovery, and ecstasy for sensual rockers, hypnotic folk pop, drunken ballads, and indefinable moments that surprise you like a ray of sunshine at five in the afternoon. The album is the culmination of the world of Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi, and Sam Fenton, three singer-songwriters who have transcended their underground roots to embrace a broader and bolder horizon.

The band’s sound has matured from early home recordings resembling hand-drawn sketches to the broad brushstrokes of Some Like It Hot, refined through a relentless schedule of songwriting and touring. When Bar Italia emerged from the underground in 2023, before releasing two critically acclaimed albums on Matador within months of each other—Tracey Denim and The Twits—they were a shy band, avoiding eye contact, starting concerts in the dark and disappearing backstage immediately afterwards. They spent the next two years crisscrossing the globe, with concerts from Istanbul to Tokyo, sold-out multi-night shows in New York and Los Angeles, and festivals such as Corona Capital, Glastonbury, and Coachella. With over 160 concerts worldwide between 2023 and 2024, they dispelled any aura of mystery, becoming a quintet that grants numerous encores, equally at ease inciting festival mosh pits and moments of intimacy.
