Dream Life is Marta Del Grandi’s second album for Fire Records, following Selva, released at the end of 2023 and followed by a lengthy tour that saw the Milanese artist perform throughout Europe.
In the ten tracks of “Dream Life”, the theme of dreams is explored in various dimensions: from the parallel and surreal worlds of the unconscious to adolescent dreams and expectations that often clash with reality. The result is a collection of songs in which dreams and reality intertwine, blurring the boundaries in subtle and often imperceptible ways.
The first single, “Antarctica”, tackles the global ethical dilemma that shakes us out of our comfort zone with a funky riff in the style of the best Talking Heads, with Marta’s vocals reminiscent of the abstract phrasing typical of Laurie Anderson’s productions. ‘Antarctica took shape during a late-night solo session,’ says Marta, ‘when a melody I’d had in my head for days came out naturally while I was playing with a sequencer. It’s a song I particularly love, which talks about climate and social injustice in a playful yet serious way.’
