Orua – Deus Dará

Oruã are the sons of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a band born to live the night and party until dawn. Carioca rock, jazz for the poor, working-class krautrock. Their new album ‘Slacker’ will be released on October 24.

Born during one of the most turbulent periods in Brazil’s recent history (which saw a coup d’état, political imprisonments, and the rise of the far right), Oruã was created by Lê Almeida, a cultural agitator on the independent scene in Rio de Janeiro, through his label Transfusão Noise Records. ‘Deus Dara’ is the first anticipation of their new album.

Oruã emerged from improvisational sessions that mixed repetitive bass lines, electric phrases, and indie guitar solos, doses of feedback and walls of noise, Afrobeat, and Brazilian references ranging from the primitive Pernambuco sound of Luiz Gonzaga to Brazilian guitar. The band is a project by critically acclaimed guitarist and producer Lê Almeida, featuring long-time collaborators João Casaes (synth), Bigu Medine (bass), and Ana Zumpano (drums). Together they blend lo-fi indie rock, krautrock, noise, Afrobeat, and Brazilian music.
