To celebrate the two-year anniversary of the release of his second album LAHAI, London-based musician, songwriter and producer Sampha has released the previously unreleased song “Cumulus / Memory”, written together with Romy.
LAHAI, nominated for an Ivor Novello Award, was released on 20 October 2023. The album title is named after Sampha’s paternal grandfather, who is also his middle name, and celebrates the wonder and magic of existence, encapsulating the chaos one feels when faced with the cycle of life and the afterlife. Comprising 14 tracks, it features some of Sampha’s closest friends, colleagues and collaborators.
In contrast to his Mercury Prize-winning debut album Process, LAHAI is a collective work in which Sampha explores the ways in which we humans connect with each other and with something greater. If Process was the album of an artist trying to understand his place in the world, shrouded in pain and loss, LAHAI is an album of radical acceptance and joy for the human condition and the beauty of the journey itself.
