Silica Gel – Big Void

Silica Gel, the Korean alternative band protagonist of the K-rock scene – have returned with a new single, “Big Void”, out now on streaming services worldwide.

The single also marks another major breakthrough in what has been a defining year for the band. Since returning from their two-year hiatus for mandatory military service, Silica Gel have become one of Korea’s most visible and decorated indie acts, headlining festivals such as Incheon Pentaport, sharing top billing alongside Turnstile, Jack White, RIDE, and Girl in Red, winning Musician of the Year at the 2024 Korean Music Awards, and supporting Noel Gallagher across Korea.

“Big Void” was first unveiled as a surprise moment during their theatrics heavy headline Korean show, dubbed ‘Syn.THE.Size X’ in August, where its mantra-like hook – “into the giant void” – quickly became a fan-favourite. Built on bright piano motifs, the track pairs existential tension with an unexpectedly hopeful sense of lift. It also continues the sonic evolution the band began with “南宮FEFERE”, moving away from their metallic, industrial earlier work toward a more organic, expansive palette.
