Dobrawa Czocher returns with State of Matter, her second album, released on March 27th, 2026. The record represents a clear step forward in her compositional work, expanding her sound while remaining closely connected to her classical background.
Written after her move from Warsaw to Poland’s Baltic coast, State of Matter is shaped by ideas of place and transition. Natural elements such as the sea and surrounding forests inform the album’s atmosphere, which reflects on change, vulnerability, and continuity. Across the record, Czocher combines rhythmic structures with a contemplative approach, creating a sense of motion that runs through each piece. Her musical palette broadens through the use of percussive cello techniques, Moog synthesisers, electronic textures, and, for the first time in her work, layered vocal parts built from her own voice. The album was recorded at Studio S4 at Polish Radio in Warsaw with engineer Mateusz Danek, balancing compositional clarity with a more open, exploratory sound.
Dobrawa Czocher is a Polish cellist and composer whose work spans solo performance, chamber music, and collaborative projects. She studied at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany, and has performed as a soloist with orchestras as well as in contemporary classical settings. Alongside her solo output, she is known for her long-standing collaboration with pianist Hania Rani. State of Matter follows her 2025 EP Sonata for Solo Cello: Joanna’s Tale and continues her exploration of the cello as both a traditional and forward-looking instrument.
