Cork’s Cardinals have shared “I Like You,” the final single from their eagerly anticipated debut album Masquerade. The romantic, accordion-led track has quickly become a highlight of the band’s recent live performances.
“I Like You” was the first song the band wrote with the album in mind, offering a bright, cathartic moment after a long period of creative pause. The track blends tender vulnerability with the band’s signature depth, while the album as a whole balances contrasting tones—from simmering cynicism and dark undercurrents in tracks like Anhedonia and The Burning of Cork, to luminous, heartfelt melodies. Drawing from folk, goth-rock, and a love of vinyl, Masquerade is crafted with a deliberate A-side and B-side structure, creating a dynamic listening experience that is both emotionally expansive and musically diverse.
Forged through family and friendship, the five-piece—brothers Euan and Finn Manning, cousin Darragh, and former schoolmates Oskar Gudinovic and Aaron Hurley—have quickly emerged at the forefront of Ireland’s independent rock scene. With Masquerade, Cardinals have established their own distinct voice, combining theatricality, vulnerability, and a deep connection to live performance, making them one of the most exciting new bands to watch.
